Merlin 4x06 thoughts and reactions.....

I have no coherent words about the latest Merlin episode other than...

I loved how they managed to balance all the important relationships on the show. Wegot great A/M scenes, A/G scenes, Gwen/Merlin scenes (finally), Merlin/Morgana scenes (FINALLY!! They totally need to have angry hate sex right now). The girls had a role and it was great. Lucy Watkins totally needs to write every episode. She knows how to write an episode where all of the characters have a role and the relationships are given strong scenes!

It was great to see that Arthur wasn't portrayed as a fool in this episode. We saw him think out loud and it gives me hope that he's gonna work out that Agravaine is a mole and wants him gone and maybe just maybe he will figure out that Merlin has magic....

I loved the Merlin/Morgana stuff, the layers of Morgana we saw and I can’t get into the whole Morgana/Agravaine scenes because it makes me sick! The way they are with each other. Although I do think that Morgana is using him and is getting frustrated with him… My question is why is Agravaine helping Morgana when Arthur is his sister's son. I think I have to agree with [livejournal.com profile] sophielou21 theory that Agravaine was in love with Vivianne (Morgana's mother) and maybe he didn't get along with Igraine... (there is more to this theory on the C_L dicsussion post).

I just love that Lucy managed to give Morgana some depth and while she is evil and I don’t approve of the choices she is making now, we got to see why Morgana turned out how she did. That just because she is evil doesn’t mean she isn’t loyal. I mean she clearly cared for Moraguse. I won’t go into Morgana’s relationships with Arthur and Gwen and whether she really cared for them because it’s too hard but my point is we saw layers to Morgana. Katie was really great is this episode. Actually I think this is my fav episode of Morgana.

Gwen and Gaius working together was very enjoyable although I wished it was Gwen and Merlin butwe finally got some G/M so that was great. Granted Gwen knocked him cold a few times....

Finally A/G: I just loved that naked!Arthur scene and Gwen totally looked and I just love how Gwen won't leave when he like nods to her and that it took a while for Arthur to go behind that screen. It makes me wonder what would have happened if Gaius wasn't there.

I also enjoyed the A/G scene outside because it showed that though they disagree over things that they care for each other and that is so important for when they are married that they still listen to each other.

Lastly, that final scene between Merlin and Morgana with the show down was awesome! I give this episode 9.5 out of 10.

I can't wait for next week's episode and I so hope that Morgana discovers the truth about Merlin....

This was definitely a very balanced show which was nice to see. Every relationship got its own special perk. Even Percival rocked in his battle cry, lol! And Gwaine finally got fleshed out again. So yeah, I enjoyed it a lot too. I wanted Gwen to show a little more concern about Merlin's disappearance, but on second watch I saw it more and that's just apples and oranges really. It was one of the best eps and definitely the best, I agree with you there, for Morgana. Katie was awesome in this ep and really everyone was. Well written and I bet they didn't cut many Gwen scenes this time, lol, because we got a lot.

Okay my theory. I think the ties between the OT4 and a few more mains like Morgause are very deep and go way back into the past before they were born.

I've always thought that Vivienne may be Mordred's mother, especially with how linked he was with Morgana early on. But now I think too after that emotional scene with Agravaine, where he really looked human to me actually, that he is Mordred's father. And yes I know I'm going out on a limb, but I think it's possible. They look a lot alike. And it would show even more why he is so loyal to Morgana.

I think maybe after the great purge started, when Vivienne seemingly fled Camelot, they had an affair and they had Mordred. And I think Vivienne may have fled Camelot to protect Morgana. Because Uther was practically mad by then. It's Morgause that I cannot put my finger on. But I don't think she's Vivienne's daughter. I think she's Ygraine's. Just maybe Morgause didn't realize it or she plotted to use Morgana. I just don't think they're sisters by blood.

And lol yes I've been thinking a lot about this because it's going into the prequel auction fic I'm writing. I agree that Agravaine probably did not have a very close relationship with Ygraine. I think she was closer to Tristan. Remember, Tristan tried to kill Uther to avenge his sister's death. I think they were very close. And I also agree that Uther-Ygraine's marriage was arranged. That's how I've been writing it. That she resented being married to him at first. Love took time. There seemed to be a lot of secrets and betrayal along the way for just about everyone leading up to the great purge.

OMG that is a very interesting theory! It could be possible and now I think about it Agravaine and Mordred do look a like. I just wonder whether Mordred will make an appearance.

Yes Sophie and I have always thought that Igraine was Moraguse's mother since series 2. We reckon that after she had her it made her barren so then Uther decided to use magic. Sophie said yesterday that maybe Uther thought that because Morgause had *died* then Igraine would live, however this didn't happen because Moraguse was smuggled out of Camelot.

When was Morgause smuggled out of Camelot though? Didn't we get a scene where it seemed it wasn't the time of the great purge? I think it was way before, which in theory seemed like it was a greater time for magic, but now I'm doubting that. Gaius once said that even before the purge magic was being used for dark purposes. And Morgana confirmed that in this ep. There were troubles with magic before the issue with Nimueh.

And who is Morgause's father? Definitely not Uther, but I also don't think it's Gorlois. Morgause had magic deep inside her like Merlin, Morgana, Mordred etc... I think her father was magical.

I do hope Mordred makes an appearance. The kid playing him is a great actor and he's in the movie 'Hugo' they're advertising now. Still, I hope we see him this season on Merlin.

Sorry this has taken me a while to respond....

Sophie has written a fic here about the whole Ygraine, Vivienne, Gorlosis, Uther, Agravaine situatuon. She explains that Moraguse is actually Ygraine's daughter with Gorlois (before she married Uther) and that caused her to be barren.

I won't say much more but it just explains Agravaine's motivations and why he didn't like his sister Ygraine and its a great read.

As to when Moraguse was smuggled out its hard to say. It was before Morgana was born and Arthur so magic was allowed, but maybe there were issues with it. All we know is that Uther used magic to conceive Arthur (so he must not have hated it that much)and then why Ygraine died he turned against it.

I agree I hope Mordred returns soon. Maybe he does this series on the next one.
