Outlander 4x09 thoughts!
This is not really going to be incoherent because I'm so happy (and many other emotions because obviously a lot of unhappy/bad things happened too).
Trigger warning/s: mentions of rape/sexual assault.
I was praying that this episode and the Jamie/Brianna first meeting would not be disappointing considering how past episodes have been, but I was really pleased and overjoyed with the scene and many other scenes.
Firstly though, seeing Brianna all bloody, bruised and afraid to be touched was so heart-wrenching (but major kudos to Sophie she played it so well - she's really improved since season 2). My heart broke for her and then seeing her deny Lizzie's comforting gestures (though completely understandable) was more heart-breaking. It made me cry that my dad come in asking why I was crying, in which I told him to leave me alone I'm watching Outlander lol.
As to Roger and Brianna, while I really feel that Roger was a real jerk, I did feel for Brianna when she tried to chase after him, but he had left. But overall, while I want to ship Brianna/Roger, his behaviour, the lack of them being able to communicate or Roger apologise for his shitty stuff he's said isn't helping. The show really isn't developing this relationship well, I mean I don't mind couples that have disagreements, but some of the stuff Roger (and in some instances Brianna) have said and then the fact that it gets glossed over doesn't sit well with me.
Bonnet - I wanted to kill him the moment he was on the screen and yell at Roger that this guy assaulted Brianna. God while Roger does do/say shitty things, I hate Bonnet so much.
The first meeting! It was perfect! Although, I was a little put-off that we see Jamie taking a piss, I loved the interaction and how Brianna told him she was his daughter. At first I got a little annoyed because I thought he would have recognized Brianna from the pictures, but then I realised that she looks quite different from those pics and I don't think he ever expected to actually see her in the flesh. The hug was lovely! It made me cry. God a lot of moments made me cry!
The Claire/Brianna reunion was perfect too, Claire was so happy and amazed to see her daughter and it was such a wonderful moment (though you could sense from Brianna that she was still reeling for the rape and really soaking in her mother's embrace). It got further amazing when Young Ian came, and aside from the fact we hadn't seen him in a few episodes, it was great that he got to meet his cousin. Also, loved Murtagh meeting Brianna and how he recognized that she has Ellen's eyes.
God though, my heart broke once again when Young Ian then told Brianna abut Bonnet and her realization that it was him who raped her. Poor Young Ian trying to comfort Brianna but understandably she couldn't deal with him touching her.
Seeing Claire and Jamie interact with their daughter was just lovely to watch. I just loved the little moments, like Jamie watching Brianna sleep and smile, when we know that Jamie does the same. The hunting for the bees scene was perfect. I just loved how Brianna asked her what he was saying and how he was calling her "my darling" and "my love" (I think?). Also, while I ain't no fan of Frank, I did appreciate that Brianna does feel guilty about being with Jamie and I liked how Jamie handled that. Though, Frank ain't perfect, he did raise Brianna and of course Jamie is grateful for that. Oh god, I got so happy when Jamie suggested Bree call him Da and that he asked to call her Bree. I just loved that whole scene. And then I just loved the scene where Jamie can't sleep because he doesn't want his daughter to leave, even though he knows she must and as Claire says she's from that time and as more opportunities, he just loves his girl so much!
I loved seeing Claire trying her best comforting Bree about what happened with Roger and I was relieved when Brianna finally told her mother what had happened and that she is pregnant. That whole conversation was heart-breaking. My heart broke for both of them. It's so heart-wrenching for Claire (and Jamie) that not only have they been raped but so has their daughter. Though the conversation was sad, I did giggle a little when Claire asked why her and Roger didn't use protection.
God the Roger and Jamie scene! OMG, because on one hand I was like "Don't beat him up. It wasn't him!", yet I kind felt Roger kinda (a fair bit) deserved it. I love Lizzie though (I'm so shipping her with Young Ian though I have no idea if that even happens) she really was a great friend to Bree. Though I kind of liked Jamie beating Roger up, I kind of wish Bree did tell Lizzie what happened (and who did it), even though I understand why she didn't because there's going to be a lot of drama.
